14,000 Mile Challenge

To my fellow BCA, BCKA and WCA members,

On 26th September 2026, I will reach the 14,000-mile milestone of my 20,000 Mile Challenge with an ascent of Haystacks from Honister Quarry in the Lake District.

As a BCA coach, and someone whose martial arts journey was greatly influenced by Peter Consterdine, I have chosen to dedicate this walk to Peter’s memory.

Many of you will know Peter as an outstanding martial artist, instructor, author and ambassador for the martial arts community. What many may not know is that Peter also supported our Mountain Rescue fundraising efforts over many years.

Peter attended our very first charity fundraiser for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team in 2014 and returned a few years later to support our Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue fundraiser. On both occasions, he freely gave his time and expertise to teach on the charity seminars held the following day, helping us raise valuable funds for these volunteer rescue teams.

Like many of you, I learned far more from Peter than martial arts techniques. His professionalism, generosity, knowledge, humour and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

This walk will raise funds for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, and it feels fitting that Peter’s name will once again be associated with supporting the Mountain Rescue community that he so willingly helped in the past.

We already have a group of 13-15 walkers taking part and, on the morning of 27th September, we will visit Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team to hand over the challenge banner and thank them personally for the incredible work they do.

The fundraising page is now live and I would be grateful for any support from the martial arts community, whether through sponsorship, sharing the appeal or simply helping us honour Peter’s legacy.

Donations can be made via the link below or by scanning the QR code on the event advert:

Peter spent a lifetime helping others become better versions of themselves. This walk is a small way of saying thank you to a man who made a difference to so many lives.

Testimonials
Almost three years ago now I first got in touch with Peter Consterdine as I felt that it was time for me to depart from the group that I then had not only my membership with, but also some 50 members. I recall clearly feeling nervous as I briefly waited for the phone to be answered, and the voice on the other end was Peter himself! It was a pleasure and relief to deal with such an encouraging and supportive organisation, which is why I am very happy to be a member of the BCKA. I'm also very happy that my own group, which is substantially larger and stronger than back then are also supported by Peter and Dawn. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
