Iain Abernethy – The Forgotten Throws of Karate semnar

Iain Abernethy – The Forgotten Throws of Karate

July 24th – 11am – 3pm

Iain Abernethy will be teaching an open seminar for in Wokingham.

The theme of this seminar will be ‘The Forgotten Throws of Karate’ and ‘The Forgotten Forgotten Throws of Karate’!

In recent years, many karateka have readopted the nine throws shown by Gichin Funakoshi in his book Karate-Do: Kyohan. These throws are often referred to as “The Forgotten Throws of Karate”.

However, there are MANY more karate throws found in other books by Funakoshi, the Bubishi, the writings of Mabuni, Itoman, etc. This is to say nothing of the plethora of throws found within the karate kata.

Sensei Abernethy will cover all of the nine throws in Kyohan and many more karate throws. This will include the related gripping skills and throwing principles. Because getting thrown for four hours would not be fun(!), we will work many of the throws to the point of unbalancing in order to keep everyone smiling and learning.” The seminar will run from 11am to 3pm and will take place at Luckley House School, Luckley Road, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 3EU. The cost of the seminar is £35 per person.

Testimonials
Almost three years ago now I first got in touch with Peter Consterdine as I felt that it was time for me to depart from the group that I then had not only my membership with, but also some 50 members. I recall clearly feeling nervous as I briefly waited for the phone to be answered, and the voice on the other end was Peter himself! It was a pleasure and relief to deal with such an encouraging and supportive organisation, which is why I am very happy to be a member of the BCKA. I'm also very happy that my own group, which is substantially larger and stronger than back then are also supported by Peter and Dawn. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
