International Karate Seminar

International Karate Seminar

When: 15th March 2026  9am
Where: Woodcrest State College Senior Gym, 38 Nev Smith Drive Springfield, Queensland, Australia, 4300

About the Seminar

Takafumi Nakayama Sensei (7th Dan) is a senior instructor in Shorin-Ryu Shido-Kan Karate and Ryukyu Kingdom Sui-Di Kobujutsu, with decades of experience in traditional Karate. Known for his engaging and practical teaching style, Takafumi Sensei has a rare ability to connect with students of all ages and experience levels, from junior students through to advanced adult practitioners.

This two-hour seminar will focus on key elements of Takafumi Sensei's instruction, including:

- Sui-Di soft blocking and flowing defensive movement

- Flow drills to develop timing, control, and body awareness

- Bunkai, exploring practical application beyond formal technique

Training will emphasise efficiency, correct body mechanics, and understanding how techniques work in real movement - not just how they look. Participants can expect to leave with useable skills, new perspectives, and renewed motivation in their training.

This is a rare opportunity for local martial artists to train with an international guest instructor and gain insight into traditional Karate taught in a clear, practical, and accessible way.

Testimonials
Almost three years ago now I first got in touch with Peter Consterdine as I felt that it was time for me to depart from the group that I then had not only my membership with, but also some 50 members. I recall clearly feeling nervous as I briefly waited for the phone to be answered, and the voice on the other end was Peter himself! It was a pleasure and relief to deal with such an encouraging and supportive organisation, which is why I am very happy to be a member of the BCKA. I'm also very happy that my own group, which is substantially larger and stronger than back then are also supported by Peter and Dawn. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
