The Tokon (Fighting Spirit) Wado Ryu Karate Goshin Do club currently runs 2 sessions in the Neuadd (village hall), Llanelltyd, near Dolgellau, on most Friday evenings.

Traditional Wado Ryu karate, for age 10 years and above (with the emphasis on self defence) 6.30 to 8pm. First session free, otherwise £6 per session.

Adult and over 16's self-defence, 8-9pm. First session free, otherwise £5 per session.

The club has changed from the Old Doragon Wado club since being taken over by Ivor Arbuckle in 2017. The club's chief instructor, Ivor has trained Wado for 13 years, gaining his 2nd Dan Black belt at the beginning of 2017.  Ivor has also done some training in other arts including Judo, Aikido, Tai Chi, Laugar and Preying Mantis Gong Fu, as well as some Chin Na and Bagua Zhang. All of this goes in the mix for self defence!

Students learn punches, kicks, blocks, Kata/forms, combinations and Bunkai/paired applications with a more pragmatic approach in mind – how to protect yourself against a real attack. In addition to the usual training (as mentioned above), we also do padwork, boxing style paired and flow drills and close quarter escapes and restraint techniques. We also make more use of protective gear and make more contact with each other!

Karate training improves fitness and flexibility, increases self confidence and encourages mutual respect.

N.B. Always check the FB page for session changes/cancellations.
